The young lemurs took no notice at first, which was what always made them a target of a predator. Too silly. Too slow. Too oblivious. Too inattentive. Incapable of heeding warnings made by far more experienced parents and relatives. There were too many others things to do rather than adhere to laws of the jungle. They could make their own rules.
So they launched, scampered, and played, making a whole host of silly noises that clouded and muffled the approach of a far scarier venture. The ringleader leapt from his branch and climbed a few feet higher, completely unaware. All that mattered was beating out his friends.
