Given that this was their first real encounter with a deity, Cam was surprised to discover how much the Voice set them at ease. It was her praise, the way she smiled at Wessex and the others -- and even a little at Cam, they imagined. Of course, Cam wasn't one of her children -- yet -- and their role in the whole project had been pretty minor, in their own opinion. They didn't really take her praise as directed to them. But they still basked in its reflected glow; the goddess's apparent kindness to her followers encouraged Cam to want to become one of those followers.
