"Does it? I had no idea," Isla says of the obsidian, deciding to help out with the entrance of the Spire since that definitely looks like a two-man job. And things seem to go reasonably well for everyone at first - Cameron is able to shovel away the smaller amounts of debris without an issue, leaving his patch of land clear.
AndMabel doesn't seem to be having any problems either - until she is. (But isn't that always the way?) A sharp twang sounds as a particularly tough piece of obsidian rejects the advances of her pickaxe. A hairthin crack spirals up the stone, and the axe head snaps off from its wooden handle. She'll need help to get this sorted!
As for Isla andNikolai? It's a study in opposites, though for the sake of pride we shan't mention who does well and who does badly. What matters is that, between them, they manage to heave the debris out of the entrance of the Spire. Now they need to get the workable pieces onto the cart, and rake the rest out of the way!
