The injustice of it still rankles at him. “Aurelia has disappeared, and Maeve is ruling alone with a baby on her hands. Maybe she’ll have ideas for Torchline too. Ray and I do what we can, but…” he shrugs helplessly. Maeve’s vision for Torchline is admirable, and he is there to help her at every step, but a little help from Safrin would never go amiss. Even if he’s still floored by her generosity with the children of Caido.
Standing he joins her at the counter, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder to watch her work. Wanting to be close even with nothing exciting happening beneath her hands.
