Lilliane looked at the bugs for a moment. "I don't think there is much on them that could be cooked. But I wanted to ask the people around here for some recipes anyway, maybe they know more about that. Want me to tell you if I get any good recipes which use those bugs?"
To his next question, she laughed. "No, I'm no mage or alchemist. There are no mages where I come from. We do have chemistry, which is most likely kind of similar to alchemy, but it has nothing to do with magic either." She shrugged.
"As for the hivemind question, it would be pretty simple if we could ask them. Otherwise, aside from making sure one of them shows a specific, non-instinctual reaction to something and checking whether the others start to share it, I don't really know of a way."
After this, she took another look at the bugs. "That would explain their behavior. The water inside could possibly warm up too, which might get painful if they remain in the sun too long."
