It was too bad it seemed to always pilfer off into this. It hadn’t been this way all the time – not before, when they were all immersed in the Hollowed Grounds, before they splintered off into worlds beyond. She thought she’d been a part of something. Now his actions only set her teeth on edge and her mind aflame. His unamused, indifferent, asshole laughter or blasé nonchalance – as if nothing mattered but him and Nate – and the set of her jaw threatening violence. How tempting it would be to fire off a round of arrows at the dragon, and she waved him away with a clear indication of her feelings – the one-fingered salute apparent as she wound her way along. She had nothing more to say to him.

There would’ve been gratitude, for his assistance in acquiring the rocks and stones. Now there was only the shroud of anger again, and whatever truce they’d managed to cultivate had been short-lived – for whatever this was.

So she snagged at Fangorn, and off they stomped, not stopping to glance at her uncle.
