“Lookit you, good boy.” The velvety purr rolls into Sunjata’s ear from far too close behind him, a practiced hand trading the fork for a mug handle seamlessly, Nate gently but insistently shoving the other man away from the stove. “You wanna help, Sunny? You can make toast. I’ve smelled what you do in a kitchen.” The coffee pressed into Sunjata’s hand is espresso, cinnamon, and sugar, in no holy combination. If nothing else, it wakes him up near immediately.
A suspicious stare snaps towards Sunjata, Nate’s free hand snapping up to grab at the pepper, the entire gesture needlessly threatening. “Are we expecting company?” An accusatory note dances it’s bleeding heart across his words, dressing hurt up as insult and forgetting to hide the wobbling lip. Nate only turns away again when he has to flip the eggs, the spatula demanding more attention than the fork had. Drawn up shoulders and a chilly silence say everything his face had been though, if not more.
