Everest certainly didn't want to date his best friend, but out of everyone in attendance (and basically everyone else in the world as well), there was no one he'd rather be partnered with. Except maybe no one, but if that wasn't an option, then Mateo was certainly the best outcome. Giving his tail an experimental wumppff in the grass, the young shepherd tilts his head adorably up at Mateo, before rising and nudging his friend's side.
If he was going to go on a date, he certainly didn't want to do it with so many people around. Now, dates were not supposed to be unilaterally decided, he was pretty sure about that, but even so, Ever was also sure that Mateo would understand his needs and concerns. He was a good friend like that.
