Ready ot not, ready or not... here they come. And maybe it was the ample warning she got, or maybe the sensation of her mind being a fractured, broken thing was simply a trick of the swirling sand, but as three birds manifested and came spearing towards her, Maea felt as if all the scattered pieces of herself were pulled together. Blissfully, pathetically relieved to have only a single job left to do.
Defend yourself.
The birds were fast. Maea snapped up her arms and crossed them before her chest, and a shield of humming energy appeared before her. There was a zap and crackle as the birds smacked into it, and for a moment the shield held, and held... then they were through, and the girl fell backward in a roll to protect her face as the summoned animals pecked and clawed at her. Without pain it was mostly an annoying thing; even more so when she realized how trail the creatures were. Grabbing one and squeezing was enough to kill it, and the other two did not last long either.
A few gashes in her cheeks and hands wept colorless rainbows when Maea got back to her feet, but there was a renewed clarity to her gaze as she looked at Wessex - and a slight grin playing over her lips as she waited for the next display.
This was the kind of fireworks she could appreciate.
