At least there’s some relief in his ability to realize when someone’s nearby. Not enough to not be taken by surprise, but enough that he at least isn’t too embarrassed by it. He does, however, shiver lightly as the hands travel up his shoulders, cover his eyes like little ice packs — like he’s suffering from a migraine or a terrible fever and Nate’s the cold pack he needs to make it through. He doesn’t complain, though, even as he shivers lightly under his layers, long lashes brushing against his husband’s palms as he closes his eyes.

She never showed up. “What?” It comes out louder than he intends, shock coursing through him with a surprising amount of rage and frustration for his husband.
