Daycare is delightful, but today? Well. Today, Jude doesn’t know what to do to console his nearly hysterical daycare attendant. She holds his hand tightly in her own as they return to the school well before the trip was supposed to be over, refusing to let him stray from her side. Jude doesn’t mind - it allows him the ability to gently pat her hand with the one that remains free, trying to comfort her somehow.
Aging is weird. He knows it happened, knows he had wanted it somewhere in his heart, but it’s still weird all the same. Though the body feels natural, the mind has gone from a mere bud to a blossom, and he can’t help but stare around at everything they pass, delighted to witness them with new eyes.
The attendant sees Phoebe first, and before Jude can even point her out the frantic woman is dragging him over to the Nightingale. “I’m so sorry, I don’t know what happened - took my eyes off for just a second - must have been too close to a shrine -” Jude tries very hard to pay attention, but it’s hard. So instead he waves ar his mother with a sunny smile, still held - unthinkingly he’s sure - by the other hand at the attendant’s side. “Hi mom!” he says in a soft, sweet tone, completely unaffected by the chaos of the day.
