The sound of a woman’s voice rises over the hum of the insects, and Nathaniel pulls back to right himself again, blinking at a stranger down on the street. She has one of those goddamned vampire gourds in her arms, though it seems to be complacent. Nathaniel blinks, frowning slightly, as he parses her words.
“Chorus bees,” he responds, wary. “Can you hear them?” She might be too far away. Nathaniel looks at her a moment, decides he hasn’t seen her before. She must be another Outlander. They proliferate like rats around the more settled area. With a sigh, Nathaniel settles back on his heels. “What do you know about bees?”
Truth be told, he knew only enough to avoid them as often as possible. If the Outlander thought she could help, though he wouldn’t turn her away. Especially if she ended up getting stung, instead. “I need to get them out here.”
