"Hungry?" Trinket asked. She hadn't considered the need for food. She often forgot to eat. Eating was boring. Though eventually her body would protest, and she would need to engage in the dull experience of food.
"I should eat," Trinket said with the tiniest nod. "We can keep playing after that."
She turned towards the stalls that dotted the docks. Several small food stands were nearby, offering freshly cooked food for sailors who often had to deal with stale and dried food during their long journeys. The nearest one was selling fried crabs. Trinket walked over to it. She knew from past experience that taking food without permission would lead to someone trying to stop her. The first few times, that had been interesting, but she no longer cared for that game.
Instead, she simply looked at the frying pan sitting over the hot coals on the grill, and commanded it: spill.
The pan knocked itself off the grill, spilling hot grease and half-cooked crab everywhere. While the cook was shouting and struggling to contain the disaster, Trinket took a crab from behind the counter, then walked away.
She began tearing off pieces and eating the fried crab, showing no signs of concern for the taste. Eating was just a chore that had to be done. She would finish it soon, then be back to play.
