REXANNA they say that war is hell, but true hell begins when the battle ends — The Bone Bridge was a good place to be alone, Rexanna thought as she leaned against the side of it – staring deep down into the fog and remembering that time that Alistair and her had jumped off the side, to fall below and revel in the fact that they were still alive. She wondered where he was, and what had happened to him over Longnight – sending up a silent prayer to all those gods who might have listened that he would be safe. But so much had changed since then, new friendships and sudden rivals, she wasn’t sure where that had left her. And then there was the slight issue with Bastien – his disregard for the gods and becoming Ascended and suddenly she began to wonder if she was falling for him. And how that might complicate things if Alistair ever returned. She had never made anything official with Alistair, nor with Bastien, but the kindness they both had showed her had her almost feeling guilty of not trying to find the man with the dark curls before – who had been there when she still bore her brand. She sighed into the chilled morning air, tucking her arms tight around her as she stared into the distance. Despite everything that Bastien had done, for whatever opinions others held about him, she appreciated him. And perhaps there was a spark of something else beneath it all that she wasn’t ready to face just yet, a sudden almost too soon feeling. It was… Hard for her to deal with, on top of the entire situation with the Naturals verses the Outlanders. And how they were supposed to deal with that when it seemed like the Naturals had made it quite clear where the Outlanders had stood. Perhaps it was best to remain with Outlanders for the time being, or to remain by herself. and you're the only one who's hands drip red. the real war rages in your heart; it always has.
