“Go ahead,” Deimos announced in return to Alys, before wrinkling his nose at Evie once more as they moved along. The showers had begun to taper off, meaning their reprieve from the heat wouldn’t last much longer, and it made the Sword all the more anxious to start heading towards their next destination. “Pick and choose a couple, and then we can move on,” he announced to the group.
The bones here weren’t as plentiful, but there were enough around to ensure their prospects were far greater than before. While this time Noah didn’t find any further writing, scribing, or etching, he did manage to snag quite a few tinier bird fragments, including skulls and the outlining of where feathers would’ve been.
Alys ended up piercing through the bleached portions, and then upsetting a mouse who’d been making its home there! It squeaked and hissed, then ducked away, back into the reaches of some other domicile. Oh well!
Evie and Deimos were equally successful in their pursuits too – managing to grab a few longer portions to stash away in their bags. These weren’t as easily identifiable – but at this point, a bone was a bone, and would do just fine.
As the clouds began to diminish, and the sun began hovering back along the horizon in its treacherous summer promises, the Sword finally ensured it was time to leave. “Pack your things and we can head to King’s End.”
