He followed the luckless waif as he was bid, but the words Ludo spoke chimed like dark bells down the shadowed corridor of his thoughts. "The first," he repeated softly. "Makes it sound like it is not a natural occurrence on this world. Like something, someone - some god or demon - chose to impose it upon Caido. Knowing it was coming was frightening enough... I cannot imagine how terrible it must have been that first time, when no sun rose and no stars shone and no one knew why." He paused, swallowing hard. "Or whether they would ever see the dawn again." But still, to leave the young one out in the cold, alone and helpless...
