A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.
The darkness became a menacing presence as a wicked cackling filled the carven. Thal doubted that Dygra would laugh in such a manner and knew that her prayer had been intercepted by something with less than kind intentions. What had originally felt like an empty void, now held the threats of spirits. A creeping chill seemed to be breaching her soul.She quickly pulled her hand from the rubies and cursed under her breath before wading back into the water. Without any lights or weapons, she would be useless against any shenanigans. For now, she would have to retreat back to her ship.
Thal dove through the water faster this time. Aware of the distance required to emerge outside the cave, she didn't lose focus on her journey. When her head finally broke the surface, she didn't look back. Instead, she rushed to the ship floating in the cove. Her crew helped her aboard by throwing a rope over, having been waiting diligently for her return.
The moment her feet hit the wooden boards of the deck, something felt off. As the ship swayed with the waves of the tide, her legs became limp and she collapsed, incapacitated by overwhelming nausea. Her vision swam in front of her like oil in water.
Men ran around her in surprised shouts. They had never seen her in such a vulnerable position. Sucking air between her clenched teeth, Thal braced her hand against the railing to stand. "No need to be concerned. Just a cramp. I'll be fine after some rest." She gave them a forced smile and stumbled towards her cabin, intending to sleep off what she hoped was a temporary phenomenon...
