Trusting the oarsman to keep his eyes straight and the boat moving, once Jack is convinced that whoever is in hot pursuit (and that's his business, not yours) has either given up or has been unable to get any further, he relaxes and gives his new passenger his full attention. "And now you have company," he drawls to the Ancient, smirking at the prickles of annoyance he feels rolling out of her, the captain all the while patting his pockets for his cigarettes.
