Well, that was a sobering comment. Perhaps he might be left with no choice, and perhaps it wouldn't be necessary at all, but there would always be a risk of having to face off against her friends when their views on what was necessary diverged. Maea was only starting to understand this, and she hated the notion, but... apparently it was a price that came with growing power. High stakes, high risks...
She just hoped that lasting peace and prosperity within the Hollowed Grounds would be worth it in the end.
The girl har no idea if Rory was trying to comfort her or not, but regardless of his intentions it brought a smile to her lips. She chose to think of it as encouragement... because even if he didn't like it he wasn't trying to stop her either. At this point, it was as good as anything she could hope for. They were not enemies, not contenders or opposing forces... which meant that one of her biggest worries could be set aside for the moment.
It was a weight off the shoulders that let her straighten the back ever so slightly, and made breathing a whole lot easier.
"I'll try my best to not let you down" she promised. "Nor anyone else."
And that brought her to a whole other matter. Two actually, but she hesitated a bit to bringing up one of them.
"Rory... what happened to the sword? At the Spire, you took it from my hand..."
She had been wondering what became of it. Had he left it down under the rubble? If not...
