The light and shadows swirled, and Isuma chirruped joyfully and leapt after the scatter of lights that danced across the grass. Jigano's ears perked forward eagerly in spite of his wariness of the trickster god, remembering clever little fingers scratching just the right place. For a moment the world seemed to hold its breath with love and laughter, and the fox held his breath with it.
And then... silence. The stillness passed, the breeze whispered over the lawn of the shrine, and the light within the offered lantern ceased to flicker. Isuma was too young and too cheerful by nature to be disappointed at the lack of hoped-for company, but Jigano felt a faint pang of worry - for the god he had hoped to call had gone against the wishes of the Old Gods in giving information and helping the mortals escape their trap. Were they alright? Had Mort punished them? Safrin had described the god of Death to be a loving, gentle deity, but perhaps stern Vi had stepped in...?
It was a question that would have to go without an answer for a while longer.
Bowing his head in a mixture of respect and regret, the fox collected his dignity and took the opportunity to sit in meditation while Isuma played within the safety of the Shrine's boundary, trying to regain a piece of the serenity he had felt for one sweet moment.
