Feathers had appeared in his hair, ruffled and unruly and beneath the ascended's hand Remi's shoulder and arm had tensed, but he didn't move. The revival of his despair and heartache, the memory of the letter in the dark of night and how it had unraveled the last thing his heart might have remained intact for. This gentle consolation now weeks too late, made Remi's heart thump and the blood pound in his ears as he opened his eyes slowly.
