Phoebe silently walked through the halls of the sanctuary, still trying to piece together exactly what it represented. Religion had never played a major role in her life. She knew some prayed to gods and goddesses, but never her. She had simply never seen a reason to. There had never been a sign of them in her life, everything she ever had had been gotten by honest hard work. To think that people actually spent the time and energy to build a place to worship invisible beings seemed the brink of insanity.
That said, when she turned a corner and happened upon a woman she didn’t recognize, she stopped, remaining silent. Her position was obvious enough to her and so Phoebe waited for the woman to conclude her prayer…or…summoning or…whatever one did to call upon a higher power. She even lowered her eyes in respect for whatever it was she was up to. She was not religious, but she very much respected the beliefs of those who were. It was well within their right.
When it seemed she had concluded, Phoebe looked back up at her. “If I may…what are you doing?” she asked her.
