Roana frankly didn't care what Emmett thought of her, nor if he thought her words out of line. Whether Phoebe and him had made nice was inconsequential. She was doing exactly what her husband would have done had he been around to look out for his baby sister himself, and she would not apologize for it. Staring straight back at me?
Soon enough the barn was mostly cleared of rubbish...but boy was it still in rough shape. She sighed and shook her head. The kind of work this place needed was more than she considered just the four of them capable of tackling. It needed stairs and real floors and a stove and a real good deep clean. But they had to start somewhere. Grabbing a wide broom she set to sweeping up the dirtied straw. Roana would shove the stuff outside, leaving it in a pile behind the barn, before returning and sweeping up the floors of any remaining loose grime.
