He curled tighter around her, fingers curling in the back of her dress and his tears wetting her hair. Emmett could hear the children inside the barn talking to each other and hoped desperately they would not come out to see, not knowing what he'd even begin to tell them at the moment.
"...Do y'wanna..um..g-go for a walk or..somethin'? I'm...I'm so...sorry Bee, I don' know what t'do. Are y'hurt or in pain?" Emmett stood back a little and looked her over, trying to see if there was any sign of injury or sickness.
