The flames were catching her. Singeing the tips of her feathers with every stroke of her wings. She couldn't get away from them no matter how hard she tried. She could ascend through the canopy, the burning leaves created a halo of flame above. The underbrush kept her from flying too low, the fire reaching up like hands trying to grasp her, pull her into their hellish depths. So she was stuck in the in between, amongst the billowing smoke that choked her lungs and stung her eyes.

The smoke really was horrible. She felt blind flying through it, but she didn't have much choice. She just hated not being able to see where she was going. The glowing of burning trunks kept her from running into the trees, but other than that she was navigating blind. Through tear filled eyes, she couldn't make out much, and the roar of the flames made her deaf to voices not far ahead of her. As the smoke began to clear, she thought she had made it. Perhaps she had outran the flames and would be able to make it out of this, another close call that would become a distant memory. That was until a large form loomed over her.

A giant serpent, flying above. Patton had never seen anything like it, and her heart dropped. As the beast opened it's mouth, a stream of ice erupted forth, aiming directly at the growing fire, and subsequently the young owl. She tried to dive out of the way, but she wasn't fast enough. The dark owl screeched as she felt her wings ice over. Flying in a blizzard didn't work. Why? Because you can't fly with iced wings. The weight makes it impossible to get lift and the stiffening means you can't flap to compensate. She was going down, and she was going down hard.

The owl flailed, feathers singed and covered in ice. She couldn't even aim herself, but she tried to glide somewhat. She managed to burst through the fire front. Thank the gods she wasn't going to land in the fire! But she had no idea the group had gathered, and she was headed straight for a tall bearded man with long dark hair. Patton screeched as she pummeled into his chest, unable to stop herself or steer clear. The collision caused her to forcefully pop into her human form, but she was too cold and too burnt to really care. However having a woman land on you at full speed rather than a small owl would probably be surprising.
