Jigano is not able thrash as much as he might like or with as much strength, given his constitution, the strength of the vines, and the current space available. He remains grappled. Where he bites at the vines entwined around Delah, the stalks split apart, but each new ribbon seems to grow its own life, wrapping around the fae's wrists.
As
Deimos attempts to wield the staff, it glows a bright crimson for a moment as rivulets of light scatter down through the gnarled wood and into the Reaper's hand. He feels strength restored to him and a little energy too, but not so much as the unicorn once healed him only a few days ago.
Unfortunately his daggers only strike against soil, for Delah's earthen hovel is complete all the way around. They do catch the attention of the remaining bugs, who set upon him like a black wave.
Delah's magic is strong, but she too is feeling the strain of her magic use. As she tries to stay the vines, they fight back and for the moment at least, her power against the flora is evenly matched and she remains grappled.
Vervain 's magic can indeed push the smoke away giving both she and the Reaper a respite and the ability to see. However like before, doing so causes the plants around to rustle and move, releasing more yellow gas, once again making breathing difficult. The bugs around Vai are unable to stand in the wake of her gale, though those on the ground slither under the earth and begin to gnaw and bite at her legs.
Surprisingly perhaps, it is
Amalia 's voice, and not Delah's that causes a reaction. From beneath the soil there comes a
song. It is a haunting sort of lullaby, like the faraway strains of whales. From below the surface of the earth, light begins to pour outwards.
