Whatever his personal differences with the goddess, however sharp her tongue had cut him, still she was supposed to be an eternal, and he was unprepared to see her brought so low.

He could not say what he might have done on his own, but the baker dove back into the spire and so he followed, moth to flame, iron to lodestone, going where she led. Neither Rory nor Deimos would forgive him for letting her go alone back into that place of poison, but most importantly, he would never forgive himself.
