Slowly she stands, supported by the crimson mosses to emerge at her waist within the Crimson Cataract - Undine, a siren of the Stonesong. With the hourglass body of a human woman and the glittering scales of the most beautiful goldfish in the river, her webbed fingers stroke at the water, and her head tilts back to serenade the moon.
All is not well, however. Her scales are blackened in places, and she is thin and weak. An inky liquid seeps from eyes that once shone like sapphires. Beneath the waters the algae, too, is blighted, and that infection has spread to this most elusive of creatures.
