She snaps at him and he doesn’t react to it, instead he only stares at the grasses further, waiting for more of the vigor and flame to hit — finding an inferno in its wake. He glances to her briefly when she speaks, a steel to her voice that makes his jaw clench and he sighs through his nose. He removes the hands from his face and regards her. “I am not intending for the blight to kill you, Phoebe.” He says roughly. “But I do not wish to rush into something because of it.” He adds on, turning his body to face her, crossing his legs underneath him and leaning forward.
“I thought it was clear where we stood. Every night I come home to you, I spend all my time with you. I hold your hand when you need me to.” His eyes are soft but there’s an edge to them. “I am there for you whenever you need. And I am there to love you when you think you aren’t enough.” Perhaps his voice snaps a little at this, too, but he tears his gaze away from her to look back out over the fields. “I can’t give you the things you want me to, not yet. And I don’t want you to regret it if I did.”
