SUNJATA
His teeth continue to clench slightly, his muscle feathering a small amount as he calms his breathing — in through his nose, slowly and calmly, as she looks him over and apologizes once again. Still, he says nothing, instead closing his eyes lightly when she reaches up to rub away the blood that had dropped down his cheek. He wonders if perhaps he did deserve it, for speaking his own truths, for telling her that he cannot physically tell her that he loves her, that he tries to do it in other ways. It hurts too much, too much to think about, and the sting of her palm hitting his cheek, nails raking against his cheekbone, was enough to bring him back to her and now.

But his heart still thunders in his chest, rapidly, wildly beating. At least she has calmed, enough to look at him, to see what the blight had made her capable of, to meet his shadowed steel eyes with her own shadowed gaze. And when she whispers, he doesn’t know how to respond, he doesn’t know what to say. But all he can think of is Lusea, a poor innocent soul much like Phoebe herself, and he turns his head away from her then to look out over the grasses. He wants to tell her it’s a terrible decision, that he can’t give her what she wants, but he doesn’t know how to word it — everything coming out harsh and rough, when it runs through his head, and so he takes a moment to collect himself before his eyes shift back to hers, the shadowed darkness hiding within, a glassy sharpened gleam to his eye.

You will, because I will ruin you.” It’s perhaps the most honest thing he can say, because that is what he’s done. He ruined his chances of leading for his family (though not like he wanted to, to begin with), he had ruined Lusea for simply being something of his. And with it, with the darkness and crumbling edges of what was left of his heart, he knows it’ll be the same here too.
you were forged in fire
& you rose from the ashes
murder and mercy rolled into one

Sunjata speaks with an Australian accent and has a passive magic that makes him produce a subtle scent that matches exactly to whatever those around him most desire him to smell like.
