Loren
not afraid to use every trick in the book

Ashetta took the lead, for which Loren was grateful. He certainly wasn’t going to be able to give them instructions on how to best winnow the herd or which targets were the best options. As the lightning mage gave Sunjata his instructions, the summoner just waited patiently to hear what he could do to assist with the hunt.

Thankfully, Ashe’s suggestion was both welcome and easy to fulfill. Rather than answering her directly, Loren just called upon his magic. Two wolves, completely identical to Ashe’s shift in every observable way (because the Launceleyn’s magic was mostly imagination based and it had been on his mind) appeared, one on either side of him. When Sunjata mentioned he was going to go after the stag to the left, Loren nodded, then eyed the two other stags nearest to them. The closest deer appeared to be in his prime, from what little the Launceleyn knew, so he focused on the one on the right instead. Perhaps it would’ve made more sense to throw everything they had at one option, but they were trying to bring back as much meat as possible before Deepfrost, and this maximized their chances of that. So as the arrow flew, he ordered his wolves to go charging forward; unlike real animals, he didn’t have to worry much about them getting injured.

The arrow flew true, burying itself in the side of the stag on the left. It let out a panicked bleat and staggered a few steps, though it was clear it wasn’t getting far. Loren’s wolves, for their part, leapt onto their target and it collapsed under a flurry of claws and fangs. The rest of the herd, including the lead stag, didn’t waste a beat. They stampeded off and in the blink of an eye were gone, leaving their injured members behind. Loren smiled at their success, then glanced at Ashe for further instructions on the off chance she wanted to give them. The Launceleyn knew how to butcher and skin an animal from his five years as a farmer, and had the tools to do it in his pack, so he walked into the clearing and got down to the bloody work. If Ashe and Sunjata wanted to assist him, he had spare blades.

This PQ is now complete! Thanks all. If you’d like to post a wrap up, feel free to do so!
