So if I can treat someone without resorting to healing magic, it’ll free me up to use my other talents.” The summoner nodded at his golem, still trudging along beside him. ”And you’re right, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to put words in your mouth. Still, Zariah could’ve tried to work with the Naturals to find something that worked for everyone instead of importing a system of government wholesale that ended up not being a good fit for the situation here.” It was odd to be having a conversation with someone who didn’t think his cousin was a complete monster. Maybe Phoebe, as an Outlander, or as a healer, hadn’t been involved in the political squabbles that had subsumed everyone else. Or maybe, more ominously, she'd actually supported Zariah's efforts here.When the healer revealed that she was from Northaven as well, Loren gave her a surprised, but pleased look. ”Really? Which wave?” The Launceleyn had thought he knew everyone who still remained from his old world; there were too few of them left, and at the thought of everyone they’d lost his smile faltered. At her comment about her origins, he tilted his head. ”You say that like helping people is a small thing. It’s not. It’s probably the most important thing we can do for each other.” Despite everything he’d been through in his life, he firmly believed that. Phoebe’s comment about a long beard actually made him laugh. ”I thought wizards had long beards, not witches. Still, if you think me pretending to be a bearded lady will help sell the whole persona, I’ll give it a try.”
It turned out enrolling really was that easy. ”Thank you! And I know I’m just a student, but I used to be a librarian, so if you need help putting together an office and some paperwork and whatnot I’d be happy to lend a hand.” It seemed the least he could do in exchange for being taught about medicine.
