Remi's emotional tank was at nearly unprecedented levels of emptiness. Not since Ronin's last death had he felt so mournfully without substance. His husband's tantrums had grown so frequent and violent that eventually the king had stopped coming home. Remi hadn't realized how much he could miss the sound of being screamed at, until he'd been left in an empty vast manor by himself.
And so it was, to hide the lines of exhaustion and heartbreak across his face, that he appeared without one. A man's face, that was. On wings as silent as he could make them, the hawk flit through the trees to the heart of the Oasis where Jigano and Loren had already convened. To a low branch the alchemist glided, gripping onto the bark with far more strength than was necessary. Loren wouldn't be able to read much of the avian's inscrutable features, but Jigano would. Or at least, through their mental tether he could, should he choose to feel through it. Darkness and despair, the likes of which Remi had never known had blanketed his soul in its entirety. Having Ronin die once could not prepare him for this, for that was sudden, whereas this was slow, and violent, and hurtful. It didn't help to tell himself that it isn't really Ronin, because that was really the crux of it all.
