He followed on silent wings and promises, a rose clutched in his talons, convictions laced in the set angles of jaws and beaks – finally some purpose with potential for success. If Vi was involved (unfortunately for Deimos, he lacked a foundational lore attached with feathers and plumage), wasn’t there a chance, an opportunity, to conquer the strands, to beat away the pestilence? For Kiada? For Ronin? For all the others who’d been struck and beaten? It was ignorance, perhaps, immersed in vows, endurance, and perseverance, too emboldened now to fling himself into cinders and ash, to fall on his knees and splinter, fracture, and fissure apart. They had ruminations, they had some clarities, they had potential to fix some of this.
The dawn pressed its winter chill into his soul and he felt enlightened, a ghost on the fringes, spiraling his way from the top of the Spire, before plunging into a dive, and coming to a stop beside Amalia’s otter form. The rose and its thorns remained in his grasp, waiting for further directions – the depths of his talons itching for digging or tearing, narrowed eyes searching, a pulse, a beat, of treachery slinking along foreboding, ominous fathoms.
Or maybe it was just the notion of the Spire itself, broken and disheveled from their prior tirades, but always certain of leaving a mark upon one’s soul.
