The white sheep of the family
Well, Remi’s laughter was dark this time, but at least it was laughter. And then there were the tears Loren had known were lurking just below the surface of the other man's mind: the Launceleyn knew from personal experience what a release those could be once the first ones finally fell. Although all he wanted to do was reassure the alchemist that it was okay to be not okay forever, if that’s what the other man needed, and that Ronin would come home in the end, which was all that mattered, the summoner wasn’t going to make any promises he couldn’t keep. All he, all they could do was keep trying.

As the other man pulled away, Loren released the alchemist. Still, they remained close, one more barrier broken down between them. Though the Launceleyn noted Remi’s proximity, the summoner had so firmly placed the alchemist in the no longer available category for so many very good reasons that the thought of what that might entail never even occurred to him. And if Loren’s body was responding in certain predictable ways, well, at this point he was almost an expert at ignoring inconvenient feelings. It helped that we was much too cold for his thoughts to trend in a more heated direction. All he felt was concern for his friend.

In fact, all the summoner did was make a cloth for Remi to wipe away his tears before they froze his eyes shut. Holding it out for the other man, the Launceleyn smiled. ”You know, if you want to pounce on me, I probably wouldn’t throw a manticore at you this time. Alternatively we could finally have that contest you were so keen on.” Hopefully the absurdity of those ideas would garner Loren another laugh, a real one this time.
