Flames?” His voice echoed the confusion in his mind and soul. It was easier to focus on those aspects than on what he’d lost: the ability to feel. To eat. To go out in the sun. To do anything fun, to feel the connection to the moon that he’d once held so dear. But she sounded certain, and given the strange circumstances of his arrival, he couldn’t do anything except take her at her word.
Still, at her offer to take him to her bakery, he gave her a smile, though it was more grateful than happy. He’d bounce back from this, eventually, but for tonight he’d allow himself to wallow and bask in the kindness of strangers. ”Thank you.
