The Voice freed him from the vines and Sam was ready to jump up and run into any fight for her, when suddenly there was an intense pain in his leg and he fell down with a shout, the wound hot and his eyes clouding over with instant tears. Turning, Sam saw Smashy standing over him - in an instant, perhaps inspired by the many swashbuckling adventure stories he'd read and fantasised about, he would try and use his knife to stab through Smashy's foot and into the ground, hoping the hard Deepfrost soil would fix the Fae to the forest floor long enough for him to get away.
If this worked, he would try to crawl (blinking away tears every time his hurt leg dragged on something) back to the main fight, invisible so he could see what was happening from the sidelines before immediately jumping in.
