With the troughs full of both hay and water, it was time to finally move on to the next task, and the joyful and ebullient Melita wasted no time in gathering them together to lead them in the next task, the actual luring of the magical creatures themselves.
Following the group, Senu went and stood next to the other women as Melita explained their task to them. Singing was an interesting thing, and while she wasn’t any professional singer by any means, a few people had once told her that she had a charming voice, but she was really too embarrassed by the thought of singing for others that she had never really done anything about it at all.
It has been quite a while now since she last sang for anyone else but herself. Singing for the Luxeres was a good opportunity to do it again, and Senu kept Melita’s advice in her mind as her lips parted with a song.
It was a song her mother had sung to her often when she was young, and it was one of the only songs she knew.
The song spoke of the great life-giving Nile river, and the god Hapi and the goddess Iset for providing the farmers with the black fertile soil that gave her people the means to farm and sustenance of life. The very same life that transformed an otherwise barren desert into a green flourishing oasis. Senu remembered the sound of her mother’s melodious voice as she sung, her young eyes wide with delight and excitement.
