Thankfully, Rexanna moved on from Loren being fun. That didn’t mean he was going to spontaneously start being fun, though, even with her smile and quip about the ocean. ”I wouldn’t know, really. I’ve only seen the sea, never been on or in it. I don’t even know how to swim.” He was probably taking her comment far too literally, but again, he was the serious sort.
Unsurprisingly, the mention of his other summoned creatures elicited more than a bit of interest and a question from the blue-eyed woman. ”They are.” However, he tensed slightly at the comment. ”I’ve ridden the pegasus, and the dragon was much larger.” He gave her a chagrined look. ”It turns out I’m uh, afraid of heights. Or...maybe just afraid of my magic running out mid-flight.” Both, probably: it had been dizzying trying to maintain his spell, direct the flying horse, and be in the sky, even though he hadn’t been high enough to even seriously injure himself. Granted, his definition of seriously injured had changed quite a bit recently.
He smiled briefly at her next statement. ”I’m so happy for you.” He was being completely sincere; it was good that she’d found such peace and joy, after everything she’d been through. Then he found himself being pulled in for a hug. He was so startled that he didn’t react at first. However, he was significantly taller than she was, and the angle couldn’t have been easy for her, Ascended or not. Letting out a huff of laughter, he disentangled himself before resting an arm across her shoulders. ”But only when you’re ready for it. And...thank you. For trusting me with that.” Not before, not after. He, more than most—especially given all the hard conversations he’d had about his past as of late, with Remi mostly, but everyone really—understood that while it felt good to talk of the past, it was also hard, and not to be done lightly.
Biting his lip, he glanced over at her. ”Can I ask you something?” He wasn’t exactly sure what he wanted to ask. But it had something to do with the past, the present, and the future. Assuming he had a future: during LongNight, it seemed, all bets were off.
