The proclamation of love halted Remi nearly as much as the soldier's pleas that Ronin take care of her boys as his own. But that wasn't what him bristle the most. No, no, that was the notion of fire. Of burning. It made him think of he and Ronin post-LongNight the year before, standing in the same place that months later they would be married, burning Vanya's body. But the guildmaster was right, there could be no inside pyre.

Watching Ronin lift the ax however made something dark coil in his belly as wings sprouted wide from his sides. Vines attached to them, moss blooming beneath the wounded soldier to collect the blood that would surely flow and to block prying eyes around them from seeing. This was not a moment that needed to be remembered. Whatever animosity he felt towards Roana for her actions, he'd give her what little lasting dignity he could, that only Ronin should properly see her death.
However he'd not look away either. He'd not let Ronin bear that on his own. So as the ax swung down, Remi kept his eyes trained solely on his husband.
