So he sat back in his chair, half-smile even when she couldn’t see it, tilting his head a minute fraction until he leaned back against the headrest again, glance not toward the ceiling, but segmented on her, reaching, reaching, reaching past those voids, those abysses, towards things that weren’t so bleak, things that weren’t so wrong, things that weren’t damaged, savaged, or ravaged. Would it help? Would it glorify things beyond the damned, beyond injuries, marred, severed pieces and portions of their lives – scattered and sketched with malicious patterns, bits and pieces of the reverent in between?
