LILY
Time seems to stop for a moment as Lily stares at the luxere, and they seem to stare back. It’s like her brain is off - in survival mode - which is not the same as singing mode. The uneasiness in the herd makes them begin to shift away. This isn’t enough to shake Lily from her fight-or-flight mode, but her hands in the snow, the cold on her knees, soaking through her clothes and burning her palms - that does. “Oh please, please” she whispers to them, her fingers fumbling with the strings of her harp - discordant notes and chords come out for a few moments until Lily realizes she can’t sit in the snow and play. She can’t play right now, period. So she stands and begins to sing - the first thing that comes to her mind and the last thing she sang for an audience.

Her voice trembles through the first couple of verses as she tries to focus on the luxere in front of her and not everything that's going on behind - the flames, the smoke, the yelling and everything else. Oh, why won't they come out?
