SHIELD
we watched the night under moonlight mixed in ocean air
the salty breeze tickled our necks
and we counted galaxies forgetting boundaries,
imagined reaching for them,
like for each other
She squirms beneath his grasping hands, unable to see their destination, her swiftly approaching undoing. She is too preoccupied with the mischief of cold feet and the prying of errant fingers, giggling as he strokes her sides with devilish intent, inhaling the wholesome aroma of fresh earth and his sweat.

It is not until he stops that she realizes her danger, dark eyes widening for a fraction of a second as she hovers, suspended, over the gaping mire. Another day like this springs into her mind, but this time the girl is better prepared, ready to combat her lover in his mischief. As he lets her go the girl contorts, pulling in before expanding out, white fur taking the place where skin once lingered. It is the leopard who strikes the muddy ground, wasting no time in rolling over, saturating her long, luxurious fur.

And it is the leopard that rises onto her hind feet, planning to support her fores on his shoulder as she shakes, memory mud flying wildly through the morning air. It is a variable hurricane of muck she has unleashed, but the girl is not done: her broad head, also mired in filth, aims to press against his chin, to entrench his beard in liquid earth.
SWORD
the stars lined our heartbeats,
and we fell
so much harder,
than we ever had
before
