She’s gone with him, of course, trying to come out of her shell. But she’d be lying if she said feeling the sun on her face for the first time since LongNight didn’t make her feel worse about the failure of her quest. To become stronger, to do better, to go back next year and try again. At least, given the opportunity to plant something will help keep her mind off of it. And she’s grateful for it, in the end, diving on wings of white and black to grasp flowers in her talons too, diving to follow Deimos and the rest of their flock to Amalia’s garden.
But they have to be sneaky about it, hoping to surprise Amalia with their work. And she, too, scopes out the windows and doors, waiting to see a shadow or a face in quiet surprise as she adds her uprooted flowers to the pile before shifting to herself and stepping up beside Deimos, looking up to him with a dark raised brow. “When did you learn you could do that?” She asks quietly, having recalled Amalia do a similar thing. And the last time she had tried to do the same, she’d found out about her caracal form.
It felt like lifetimes ago, now.
Still, she grabs the gloves and a trowel from Deimos, slipping them on and kneeling among the soft, cold earth when she finds a place that’s not inhabited already, and begins to dig.
