His plan seemed to be working. It was slow work, especially given the amount of space there was to cover, and he wished he had some kind of earth magic to help him make the ditch. But he did not, so he continued to dig with his hands, appreciating more now than ever the work slaves had done in his home city while he had watched on from high-up windows criticising their speed.
Abasi was so wrapped up in his work he did not notice things going wrong for Jigano and Deimos. He simply continued to work, covering enough ground in time that he felt he could sit back for a rest, before keeping at his job.
