Amalia is not as good at reading people as Peter. She finds his nuanced, halting manner irritating and bewildering. He's so careful in the way he answers, the things he says, and she finds herself bristling further as he continues to treat her like an adversary, or some sort of cruel schoolmaster.

"That's good," the baker says simply, not trying to hide her relief that Adam won't be leaving into the Lauceleyn grasp. Unsure of what she should say next, certain anything she does will cause him to retreat further into his shell, she lets the silence stretch awkwardly a moment, utterly at a loss.

It's a shame Adam has been such a good friend, because the baker would like nothing more than to send Peter on his way. As it is Amalia attempts to swallow down her ire once again, clearing her throat uncomfortably. "Ah, so... Was there a particular snack you wanted? Or did you want me to choose?"
