And part of it surprises him somewhat to come to that realization – his father had never allowed it, and in the Resistance, everyone would have wanted him to disappear rather than give gifts. But ah, he’d gotten the best gift out of it all, Lusea, at least for a time.
Still, the earring slips in and Sunjata’s finally free from the apple as he moves his jaw slightly, getting used to the weight and the sting of the cold metal. Still, he listens to Adam’s comment, smirking lightly as he glances up to the man. “You want a hint? Heat up the water and put some salt in it, it’ll help it ward off infection.” Just in case Adam is thinking about adding to his own variety of piercings.
He stills again as Adam reaches his other side, pausing only to pick up the second earring, the one he’d commissioned to match, listening while Adam speaks of his toughness, and he can’t help but offer a quiet breathy laugh to that. “It took what, less than a minute?” He rumbles. “My wing tattoos took around ten hours of sitting in a chair while someone stabbed me multiple times with many needles.” Sure, this was a different kind of pain, but it was over far quicker than a tattoo was. “Besides, I was raised to… Not show pain, in a sense.” A bit of an honest answer for Adam’s own prior truthfulness.
Sunjata wasn’t raised to show weakness in any sort, least of all when it came to physical pain.
