DEIMOS
the resurrected sword
The water chilled and pulled, a fiendish haze he implored, dug within, claws extended in their infernal reach – breath held in tiger lungs and predacious grandeur, blue eyes open to watch and bear witness to his scrupulous antics. These were not heathen brushstrokes of the battlefield, these were not the taut, uncoiling machinations of slaying enemies, these were not the howling chords of violence. Instead, it was rapture and play and amusement, a diversion in the midst of so many other things – still focused, still precise, and still at ease. The flash of gold scales registered in his mayhem, and his paws clawed into the water. What would it be like, to simply stay along these thresholds – another home, another shelter, another sanctum, lost in the finery of water, of yesteryear’s glories, of boys running across sands, of childhood shouts seeking waves and currents?

Bizarre motions disturbed the quiet musing, and he tilted his head within the ether’s breadth as one unfortunate fish found itself caught in a whirlpool. It spun and spun and spun, revolving motions until the thing was likely dizzy – he hastened forward, grabbing hold of its tail in his teeth, before rising to the surface. It struggled in his grasp as they broke through the veneer, as his nares widened and snagged at the air, as he took some pity upon it and sent it flying into the air, and then forgot the notion entirely, batting it with a paw until it was sent straight back to where it’d come from.

Only then did he realize he had company – eyes narrowing for a beat, before hastening an amiable growl at the summoner and his luxere along the shores.
