Bastien knew he was likely asking too much at this point, but invasive personal questions were half of how he'd had most of the interesting conversations in his life. Besides, he was always willing to share the same information about himself back; any excuse to talk about himself was not something he'd turn down.

Other ways to tell, if you are careful. See if they are excited about spending time with you. Do they give you gifts at festivals? Do they ask how you are? Those would all be marks of a friend, I think." He'd never really had to question his friends. Since childhood, he'd been surrounded by at least several companions, usually close to at least some of them.
