He watches as he lists it out, watches as she shakes her head and yet her gaze is far and away. And with it, the real reason for a marriage. To not be alone – and isn’t that why he spent so much of his time with others, too? His jaw clenches, and he tries to find the middle ground with it as she gives him the only reason. And he sighs, but he understands. And wishes she had said that first. “I still wouldn’t be here all hours of the day for you. Between my work and yours.” He rumbles, a hand waving in his uncertainty.

“I have the bar, you have the college, I’m not sure how much time we even would get together. Unless it’s just me crawling into bed some time in the early morning just to be there for you.” He shakes his head. “But among the bar I have other work that require my attention.” Gods, he hates it when she gets like this – that far away look in her eye. “And what am I to do if it takes me to the Greatwood or Halo? Take you with me with all your work here? I can't do that.” He feels like they’re reasonable questions.

He sighs, reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose. “If it’s truly what you want, then I’ll keep my activities to work. How’s that for compromise?”
